[Frequently Asked Questions]
[shelved wedding platters]

1. Will my platter be large enough / how many signatures fit on a platter?
Most large platters accommodate between 175 and 250 signatures. Please remember that couples often sign together, as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" or "John and Jane", which will appear as one signature. Also note that guests can sign the back of the platter. If you have fewer than 60 guests, you may want to order a smaller (13") platter. Please contact us for details.

2. Can you design a platter using a combination of the design ideas I see on your "Platter Designs" page?
Yes! Any design may be adapted to other platter sizes or altered in color upon request.

3. Will my platter's colors look exactly like the color swatches displayed on your site?
Colors may appear darker or lighter depending on the settings of your computer monitor. The swatches approximate the paint colors that we will use.

4. What are the charges when I order my platter? Is there a deposit fee? When do I pay the remainder of my fee?
The total price of the platters is listed next to each design; most platters are $125. When you place your order, you will be billed a 50% deposit of that total. Please remember that your platter is a custom design and this deposit is nonrefundable. The remainder of the fee plus shipping costs are due at least 2 weeks before the completed platter is picked up or shipped.

5. Will the signatures smudge? What if someone writes something I don't want to keep on the platter? Is there any way to erase?
The porcelain pens dry quickly, so they don't often smudge. If someone should make a mistake in writing (or a young guest creates a "doodle" that you want to remove) a Q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol will lift the marks before you bake your platter.
Pens should only be opened on the day of use.

6. How do I "finish" my platter after everyone has signed it?
Your platter can be finished by baking at 350 degrees in a conventional oven. This sets the signatures and makes your platter permanent.

7. Do I need to bake my platter immediately?
No. Technically, the signatures are permanent after they have dried, and the platter will not smudge. Baking is a final step to set the signatures.

8. Can I use my platter for serving food?
The wedding signature platters are for decorative purposes only; we do not recommend using them for food.

9. What if I want custom details or a custom design for my platter?
Some couples want platters that match their invitations, which reflect their wedding theme or include their wedding flowers. Still others choose to include vows or verses in their design. We have created hundreds of custom designs for couples. We'd love to talk with you about your ideas! Please e-mail or call us at (207) 934-0018 to discuss your custom platter.
